11-7-12
I spent a lot of time scrolling through old Accents, ostensibly looking for stuff for the article I'm attempting to gather information and interviews for, which is due next week and I barely have anything because everyone (including me) is freakishly busy.
People keep reminding me that the semester is quickly coming to an end. Like I don't already know that. I'm trying to get from one assignment to the next, thank you very much. I'm trying to not fail and to apply to graduate schools and what not. *sigh*

3 Months
9/19/12
Exactly three months from now I will be hurriedly preparing for commencement.
Three months.
No, seriously, three months.
But I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around it. It just seems as if this semester is sliding rather quickly toward its conclusion and I'm not quite sure that I want it to get there.
A journalism friend is counting down the days. How does she have free time to count down the days? I'm just like, "Get this paper down, read those chapters, write another essay, plan out the third, take notes, etc.," I'm just busy the time keeps passing me by. *sigh*
Then again, maybe it's not that she has free time (though I suspect she does have more free time than I do). Maybe it's because she knows what job she'll try to get after graduation.
(Oh, how I wish people would quit asking me that question! I'm trying to figure it out!)

Gray
9-4-12
Maybe it's just been the weather, maybe it's me. Maybe it's a combination of the two. I've just felt gray today. You know, blah. In a funk.
And I'm not certain as to the why. (If there even is a why.)
I guess that I just don't like uncertainty, and yet that's what my life is full of at present. Uncertainty and homework. Uncertainty about many things and eighteen hours' worth of homework. Sure, that last part is because of me, but it's still stressful.
Also, it wouldn't hurt if the sun shone more often.
A pastor friend of mine posted this video on her Facebook page. I've heard most of those.

Off-Campus
8-22-12
So I've been back in Tennessee since Monday evening. I got to go hunting for the apartment that I will be sharing with Lindsey and Tamara in the near-dark. I even ended up calling Lindsey so she could get her brother (the former occupant) to explain where he hid a key for me.
Yesterday I emptied my storage unit in one trip, which was nice. That saved gas, anyway. I carried everything upstairs (since that's where my room is) and now I'm sore. I'll probably have to bring all my kitchen stuff up as well (the kitchen is tiny and doesn't seem to have any room for my stuff). I might buy a fridge. I'm also looking for a twin bed because the one in here is like a full sized bed and it dominates the room and I don't like it. Nor do I have sheets that fit it.
Today I vacuumed my truck out and discovered that I have tiny spaces under the backseat. Nice. I also bought my textbooks (not the most expensive semester, but a lot of books; the cashier guessed that I was a history major. I'm English, but she wasn't far off). I bought some plastic drawers and some food and some school supplies.
I think I'll go out for supper.
More later.

Balance
11-1-11
I guess this could be titled "Time Management." It's just rather crazy at the moment--I go on tour with the Wind Symphony Thursday (through early Sunday morning), and so I'm trying to balance doing homework (including my infographic, of which I lose a day of work time on because of tour) and prepping for tour and working on term papers (one of which I've only partially planned, one of which I've been working on for like three weeks and still don't have a completed draft).
I know, everyone else is juggling stuff, too. I understand and I empathize, for sure.
And now I need to head off to class. More later.

Busy, Again
1-31-10
This week will be very busy, and my life will only get busier as the semester gains momentum. College Bowl games start this week, and, of course I'm involved. I need to put together another issue of Roots. I have two tests and two papers this week, as well as regular homework for my other classes. There's a group project that my suitemates and I have yet to do much work on, and it's due a week from Thursday. I'm trying to balance a social life, a work life, and an academic life--and trying to do my writing when I can. I have to exercise and practice my bass clarinet outside of class (and we have a Wind Symphony concert in a little under two weeks, and I am still failing to go fast enough when I play parts of some of the pieces). Things are starting to ramp up for SonRise, and I'm technically an assistant scene director, even though I'm only supposed to be one of the mob leaders, but that means a few more practices for me (one on how to direct, since I know diddly squat about that). *sigh* SO much to do, and there are only 24 hours in each day, a good portion of which I'm asleep (and needfully so).

Update
11-22-09
Got a 99 on my statistics test; still waiting on the results of the American Literature class (I had those tests both on Wednesday morning). I'm finishing up my research paper that's due Tuesday, and the third floor has a "Christmas" party tonight at 8 PM. It will be my last required worship credit.
I have lots of work planned for this Thanksgiving Break--like, working on my portfolio, cataloguing my books (hey, I have six boxes and I need to do that), go through my clothes, and many other things. Busy. Sort of glad I'm staying here just because I'll be busy.

Student Missions Emphasis Week, Busyness, and Dive Boots
11-10-09
Last week was incredibly busy. I'm a Student Missions Club officer, and so I was involved in much of the preparation and execution of Student Missions Emphasis Week, which took place last week. I spent a portion of Sunday borrowing cell phones and making calls in order to get people to hand out hot drinks of the Promenade for last Monday morning. Blessedly, we got enough people. Although the setup of the drinks left me a little breathless (I ran from the Student Center to Brock in order to get to my first class), the day went smoothly. My friend Kevin helped me gather all the leftover supplies together, and I suppose someone put them away while I was at work. Anyway, then we handed out candy and invitations in the dorms on Tuesday evening. It took me an hour and a half to cover the third and fourth floors of Thatcher South, but I think it was well worth it. One person even told me, "This is the third time someone's told me about the Expo." And my reply? "Good." Wednesday we wore cultural dress, and on Thursday we wore our white flag shirts (and my flag shirt has unfortunately had a washing machine accident and I hope I can get the pink out; I washed the load in cold, and somehow a jacket bled onto my bath towel, a sock, and part of my flag shirt. I am not pleased.). On Friday we had set-up for the Expo, and then we had vespers. Vespers went smoothly, and the Expo did, too. Three people signed up as interested in Ebeye, and that, of course, excites me. But all the booths had at least one person sign as interested, and that excites me even more.
I am very busy, as my last post noted. Homework, of course, but I'm also working on the next issue of Roots and on several homework-y projects that are due within a few weeks (like a research paper for Cross-Cultural Experience or my paper for American Literature over The Grapes of Wrath; I need to buckle down and do those papers). I recently finished reading Moby Dick, and I'm not entirely sure why it's still read today (especially since I'm a fast reader and this book took me a year to read). Seriously, it was thin on plot and thick on encyclopedia. I would have preferred to read a short story about the whalers who all die but Ishmael because of a crazy hunt of Moby Dick, the White Whale, instead of having to wade through all the detailed descriptions of the different types of whales and Melville's rambly rants about everything. Also, I don't think I actually care about what the stupid whale symbolizes. I have some guesses, but you know what? I don't care. Perhaps that goes against everything an English major stands for, but, also, not much on the caring. I still need to finish Paradise Lost, which is also taking me a long time, but that's not because I don't enjoy it. That's because I have to be "in the mood" for epic poetry and have time to digest it properly. I haven't had time for that since I was subbing for Amanda during a week of Junior camp and got to swing in her hammock. Plus, I've been adding exercise, because it makes me sleep like a rock. In two days, I've walked four miles and biked four miles. Me likey.
Also, for randomness' sake, I wore my dive boots this evening, because it was raining and I figured that if my feet were going to get wet, they might as well get warm from the fact that the shoes are insulated. The only downside was that it doesn't have good arch support, but that's about it. They're comfortable, oddly enough.

Homework
10-2-09
Oh, there's plenty of it. Papers, daily assignments, quizzes, tests. The avalanche of chopped and sliced trees is upon us. We are in the thick of it. I wonder how much paper we waste with the six-question quizzes that take up full sheets of paper in history class. At least in statistics I don't have quizzes, but I do have a test next Wednesday. I got my first American Literature test back today. 85/85. Yay! I actually missed three points, but for some reason, every test had three points added. Don't know why. Oh well, I'm not going to complain. My essay section received an 18/20, and the points the professor raised about the two points she took off make absolute sense. Whoopee. Homework is homework. I'd still rather be talking with people. Or writing. Or doing something other than homework. Maybe like assigning it. Assigning homework is okay, especially if it's easy to grade or if you have a reader to grade for you.
*sigh* So busy. My favorite time of the week (other than Sabbath) is Thursday nights, and I've already written why I like those (other than the fact that next week, Jim and Pam get married!).
More later.
