if you wanna say that you're sharing news
then you had better have sources
(and actual sources, too--
not some jumped-up conspiracy site
masquerading as real news;
not some clickbaiting reader-grab gab
meaning to push your agenda;
not some satirical sources
mocking your lack of information literacy)

what to do, when unexpected dreams are dashed--
with the passing of time,
(by time passed by),
and, heart caught off guard,
the shattered pieces scattered, splattered, spent--
you find your hands
empty
of the things you thought you held,
of the things you thought you'd hold
and what to do then?
the wind whispers no reply.

_____
It's raining, it's pouring.
Nobody's snoring.
At least I'm not.
Yet the whole world's asleep.
-
What can make a person miss
Things they were expected to find?
Timelines and schedules and half-laid plans--
Ideas the self unconsciously wedded to
(But who did the expecting?)
-
I'm really quite happy, when all is told,
But if I'm a protagonist,
my story hasn't
quite
begun
(or least, some chapters I expected to happen
haven't)

I am not invisible
she whispered to the darkness
I am not invisible
she spoke out loud to the same
I am not invisible
she shouted
I am not invisible
The darkness did not reply
but perhaps it laughed

I don't often pen out my soliloquies,
For You--You are He who sees--
You know him and me and if us
You know my heart pulls me to my knees.
I am full of trembling fears
Accumulated through the tarnished years
Of things said and of things heard
Of bootless dreams and silent tears.
I know what I would like to say
And to keep saying it day by day
But I am mute
For once it's said, I can't unsay.

Poetry
2/3/10
Wordsworth said that "poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings; it takes its origins from emotions recollected in tranquility" (Preface to Lyrical Ballads). Have you found that to be the case? Does the poetry you write come to you spontaneously, or do you have to work at it?
For me, it's a combination. I will randomly write stuff, but if it's really important to me, it's worth taking time to make it flow right.
