All of my reading for linguistics has made me think of an awesome clip from The Office. Unfortunately, I could not find the clip in its entirety with the actors and such--but I did find a video that used the audio from the clip and used kinetic typography to illustrate. I find it ironic in a clip about grammar that there is incorrect grammar in the kinetic typography, but it's still a cool clip. Go here: Whoever vs. Whomever.
Also, I am trying to find a word for my etymology essay, and I think I have found that. Now I need to write up a proposal about it (but that's not due until Tuesday).
More later.
PS. My roommate and I got a crowntail betta fish last night. He is blue, very handsome, and named Frodo. I don't think he'll be taking a ring to Mount Doom any time soon, seeing as he lives in a little tank on my roommate's shelf.

Some Thoughts
12-3-09
Two weeks from today, I will be in Michigan City for Christmas Break, done with my first semester back. It's a little crazy to think of. Also, a little crazy to think that I've only been back in the States for six months and four days (yes, I know the count; live with it).
Just got back from another fun hour at the Coopers'. I so very much love going over there. Mrs. Cooper demands a hug, Mr. Cooper always remembers my name and asks me how I am, and, of course, hanging with friends and watching The Office and, now, 30 Rock (what happens when your ride stays to see it) and dissing the stupid commercials where they're all singing about plaid being cuddly. A pattern can be cuddly? I thought soft things could be cuddly. *sigh*
Also, there's a house near the Coopers' home that Danny calls "toxic." It is completely decked out in lights--lights that blink, and a sign near the house claims that there is also "synchronized music" to go along with the house. Seriously? How much time did setting that up take? Does someone have a lot of time (and money, to pay the electric bill) on their hands? They could give me a little of that dough so that I could pay off my school bill and build up a credit again. Those are nice.
Exciting stuff today. At observation this afternoon, the classes I observe flipped personalities due to the presence of a sub in one class and the presence of no troublemakers in the other (principal took them out). On the way back, we had entered Exit 7 (the Collegedale exit) when our bus started slowing down a lot and not going the usual road. We asked what happened and the bus driver calmly said, "The bus lost its brakes." We sat for about half an hour until the school sent some Marketing folks to pick us up in vans. Then a client for the Writing Center was delayed for her appointment because people were gawking at the bus on the side of the road. Go figure.
Yay! Tomorrow's Friday. It's almost Sabbath--and almost time for the Christmas Concert. Saturday night, 7:30 PM or so. Then, no more Wind Symphony until January.
More later.

Thursday Nights
9-25-09
I love Thursday nights.
Why?
I love Thursday nights because I get to go over to the Coopers' home, chill with old and new friends, (usually) eat a snack, and watch The Office. Those last two are my least important reasons. I'd go over there if there wasn't food, and I'd go over if there wasn't any of The Office (which, by the way, is awkwardly hilarious).
Yesterday, as I was waiting for a ride to materialize (since I don't have enough gas money to power my own vehicle), I realized how much I looked forward to going over to their house. And I realized that it wasn't because of watching some television show. I could just as well watch it on nbc.com, along with scenes not played on the airing. But there's something wonderful in cramming twenty or so people into the room the Coopers have their television in. There was people on the couch, on the floor, on couch cushions from another couch, and lying on the floor. We were all comfortable (at least, I know I was, and I'm pretty sure everyone else was), and we laughed together and talked during commercials. I loved it not because of the television show, but because of being with the people. (Have I mentioned that living on Ebeye made me a more sociable person? And a more social one?)
I realized that I've been missing interaction between people, and that I've been longing for a world where everything was not so rush rush rush. It would be nice to live in such a manner that I wouldn't have to worry about being late because I'm having a great conversation with someone, to live without the tyranny of the clock, of the watch, of the alarm, etc.,.
I know, I know, it's a cultural difference between America and the Marshalls, but...I prefer people over appointments and homework and what not. Now, anyway. Two years ago I used my mountains of homework to hide away from people, as a sort of acceptable excuse to get out of their presence. Now it's an obstacle to building relationships. There are so many jokes made about my university and marriages, about nursing and theology students, and so on, but I sometimes wonder how everyone had the time to really get to know each other and get to that point.
*sigh* Learning to re-balance everything (plus a few new things) is sort of difficult. I'm more re-adjusted than I was the first full week of school, but every so often something pops up, like wasted food at the cafeteria or the above story. Just a reminder, I suppose, of the fact that I changed and now want to live with the change.
More later.
