Control

4-27-12

Fiction-y.
__________
Her mom said that the girl was escaping when she went to her bedroom whenever possible. The girl protested that she would never do that, that she was not escaping.

If she were honest, though, she was.

A small lie, she supposed. One necessary to keep the pretend peace, to maintain the family's fictions.

The same reason was why she tried to keep her opinions to herself; besides, whenever she had expressed a thought--or, heaven forbid, a feeling--she'd usually been scolded into silence. Escaping and being silent were just ways of trying to control the chaos that surrounded her. Deep down, she knew it didn't work, but if what she said and did could keep the consequences she hated from happening, she'd do and say what was necessary to keep the pretend peace.

Little did she know how thinking that way would affect everything as she grew up.
