Snow Day

1-10-11

Last night, when Southern canceled classes, I was skeptical. There wasn't anything on the ground, and even though everything was proclaiming what was to befall, I was skeptical. This skepticism comes from the knowledge that school's been canceled in anticipation of an event that didn't actually come to happen before, and from the knowledge that the South has an slightly understandable paranoia of snow. (There's so many of them so unacquainted with it that driving is doubly hazardous.) Still, food flew off the shelves at Wal-Mart and other such places. Me, I did my homework, went to work, and was going about my day when I found out about school being canceled.

Now, friends are known to be sarcastic and/or meanly funny, so I went to Southern's website. No such announcement. I went back to Facebook. Two more status updates, one of which saying, "Go to the website." I went back to the website, and lo! it was there. The announcement had also been released on Twitter; we didn't get an e-mail until this morning. (On a side note, Facebook is trying to take over the world, if it hasn't already.)

So I slept in, if sleeping to 9:20 counts as sleeping in. When I woke up, I was pretty amazed to see the winter wonderland that now existed. We got 7 1/2 to 8 inches, more snow than Chattanooga has seen since 1993. I participated in the epic snowball fight that took place in front of Wright Hall, I ate at the CK with my friends (and got nailed in the face with a snowball), and I got homework done. I have a meeting to go to tonight (one of the very few things that did NOT get canceled), and then, as of now, I still have recitation and lab tomorrow.

Now, based on the amount of friends who are community students who report that they're snowed in, Southern should cancel school again tomorrow. But I'm not holding my breath, since a day of such epic awesomeness rarely comes here in the South, and I have a feeling they're trying not to have a repeat.

But I'll still be paying attention to Facebook, Twitter, the radio, and Southern's main page.

EDIT: I posted this, and then I went to Southern's main page. We have another snow day tomorrow. Squeals of joy could be heard all over the apartment as I told my housemates and then we laughed as we heard people downstairs scream for happiness.

Wind Symphony Tour

11/7/10

We got back from our Wind Symphony tour to Michigan at 2:30 this morning. Well, 1:30 this morning, if you take into account the time change. I slept for a bit and then I got up, did homework, and am at work.

We played at Great Lakes Adventist Academy (after a rehearsal with their band), Battle Creek Academy (after a rehearsal with their band), and Andrews University vespers and the church services on Sabbath. We spent way too much time on the bus, but we had fun playing Bible character Questions, reading, watching movies, talking, and trying to sleep in the chair and on the aisle in freezing temperatures. We ate at hotel restaurants, school cafeterias, fast food restaurants, and church potlucks. We had a massive snowball fight outside the hotel on Friday night because we were introducing some Floridians to snow--and it was pretty epic. We took pictures of us and I'll be getting them off Facebook at some point.

Overall, it was a great trip, even if I think my bottom lip's a little puffy from playing so much. Now it's time to get back to homework. I have a chemistry quiz tomorrow and a bunch of stuff is due. Back to the grind...
